Use authentic connections among the arts and the other content areas to teach common concepts.
Demonstrate that integration is an effective strategy for teaching.
Provide basic knowledge of educational dance, music, theatre and visual art.
Model a collaborative process for planning, teaching and reflecting.
Curriculum topics and concepts will be grounded in National and Alabama state standards. Instruction will be student-centered and exploratory in nature.

Focus On Arts Integration:
Integrated Curriculum Design Workshop
July 26-29, 2010
Who should attend:
This four-day workshop is designed for the specialist who wants to begin working with the classroom teachers AND for the generalist who wants to begin integrating the arts throughout the curriculum. Generalists should have attended the AIEA Institute, other arts professional development sessions or have a general knowledge of the chosen art form.
Schools should send teams of 2-4 teachers, each of whom will focus on a different art form. This is Step 1 of a two-year training cycle. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with Teaching Artists who will be available for school residencies.
AIEA staff will provide site visits during the fall 2010 to observe an integrated lesson being taught. Participants will return to Montgomery in 2011 for 3 follow-up days of training and will be expected to implement an integrated unit in the Spring of 2011. Master teachers skilled in arts integration design will serve as mentors to the teachers entering the training program.
Cost: $150 for the two-year cycle
Housing: at the Auburn University at Montgomery for approximately $100 per person.
